Vegas turns to Kone for people flow solutions


McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas has chosen Kone to supply elevators, escalators and autowalks for its airport expansion.  ┬á KoneÔÇÖs EcoSystem MR elevators, ECO3000 transit escalators and Kone autowalks will be installed in McCarranÔÇÖs new Terminal 3 in a contract worth $45 million.┬á┬á Kone Inc. is a Finnish-owned company with its Americas headquarters in Lisle, Illinois. "We are thrilled to be a part of this expansion for the McCarran International Airport,ÔÇØ said Vance Tang, Kone EVP and Area Director for the Americas. ┬á┬á ÔÇ£We are proud to have the opportunity to further strengthen our partnership with McCarran by contributing to the creation of a world class airport facility with KoneÔÇÖs innovative People Flow solutions, which enable passengers to move quickly and smoothly at all times."┬á┬á Installation is expected to start in the fall of 2009, with completion aimed at December 2011. KoneÔÇÖs Eco-efficient products and services are intended to deliver the benefits of reduced energy consumption, fewer construction materials and improved operating efficiency.┬á┬á Referring to the trend for energy efficiency in modern buildings, Tang said in an exclusive interview with this magazine in July that ÔÇ£there is a need to incorporate environmental and energy solutions. Around 40 percent of all energy is consumed by buildings, and transportation systems contribute to that.
